History

April 1993

Jerry Desaulniers, the inventor of the “Vortex Wind Funnel”, started his research with the aim of designing a better wind turbine.

January 2009

In a moment of clarity, the inventor visualized a wind funnel that was the turbine: a conical frustum design that would be lighter, quieter, bird-safe, more powerful, and which would start producing power at lower wind speeds than conventional wind turbine technology.

July 2009

The first prototype turbine was tested to verify that a low wind speed start-up could be achieved. This prototype started spinning as low as 2 MPH wind speed.

October 2009

Patent protection applications were filed.

February 2010

Master Flo and Vortex Wind Funnel joined forces in Hawkesbury, Ontario with a strong commitment to perfect this exciting, new technology.

April 2010

Construction of the second prototype was finished and the testing began. This 6 foot turbine included permanent magnet generator, variable resistive load, logic controller and instrumentation.

October 2010

Building of an 8-foot wind tunnel in Hawkesbury was completed so that accurate testing could be performed.

January 2011

Simulated freezing rain test was performed in our wind tunnel at minus 20 degrees Celsius with a misting spray nozzle.

April 2011

Destruction testing was performed in 80 MPH wind with the load totally removed this allowed the turbine to spin free and the terminal velocity theory became a fact. The top speed of the turbine was 350 RPM and the test was successful!
